Pizza restaurant
I’ll preface this review by saying I was raised in NYC and NJ, Home of the most amaaaaaazing pizza (and bagels, and many other things). Sooooooo fast forward I live in Chicago now and have been repeatedly disappointed with the thin crust pizza. Ugh. That’s another story. Alas, my husband and I are on the search for Chicago’s best pizza spots, where the pizza tastes as close to New Jersey perfection as possible. *drumroll*……………………………………………… Jimmy did a great job!!!!!! We really loved the pizza here. Big slices, chewy glutenous and crispy crust, cheesy, good ratio of ingredients, yeah. They nailed it. When I initially bought it I did think it was a bit pricey, but as you can see in the pic, the large pizza we ordered was massive, so I think it was definitely worth it. Jimmy’s, I’m impressed! I will definitely be coming back sometime to try your garlic knots and other pizzas.
Jimmy’s screwed up my order the last several times I ordered on Friday/Weekend evenings, but I totally forgive them because their NYC style pizza is AMAZING and the best in Chicago. Given these crazy pandemic times, please be patient with them. My pizza was not ready ready within 1 hour from the time I placed my order, even though the person that took my order said it will take about 35 minutes — which is understandable because Jimmy’s Pizza is so good that they’re slammed with orders on weekends.
I first heard of Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe through the Infatuation and Timeout as it’s rated as one of the best pies in Chicago so I had to try. Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe is a NY style pizza in Chicago. I ordered delivery on a Saturday night and it was delivered right on time. I ordered the garlic knots as an app, a slice of pepperoni, and a large White Pie. The garlic knots were meh. There was a decent amount amount of garlic and parmesan, but there wasn’t much flavor overall and probably need more butter. The slice of pepperoni was huge and a great deal for a $5 slice! The crust had a little bit of crisp, very sturdy, and good for folding, but was blah. The best part of the slice was the cheese and the sauce was good. The pepperoni was ok, but was pretty generous. I enjoyed the white pie better as the huge chunks of ricotta cheese was awesome, but again I wasn’t a huge fan of the crust. Prices are cheap and my delivery was right on time, which are both good things! However, I thought the food was just ok. There aren’t many pizza by the slice options in the area so Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe is a good option. If I am looking for a quick slice of pizza and I am in the area, then Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe would be a good place to try, but there are better pizza options in Chicago.
Sorry yelpers. I had high hopes and was super disappointed. I knew this wasn’t NYC nyc pizza but I was expecting it to be reminiscent of NYC pizza. It wasnt The Margherita was very very bland and tasteless with a spongy texture not crispy. The garlic knots were also chewy and not fluffy. It was a pass for me..
We wanted takeout pizza amidst the covid quarantine, and we were so happy Jimmy’s has stayed open as it was a favorite of my boyfriend’s when he lived in Lincoln Square. This New York style pizza definitely lives up to its namesake, with wonderfully chewy crust that’s thin and crispy in the middle. The sausage is nicely flavored as well, and we added goat cheese because why not (it was delicious btw). I’ve had a tough time finding New York pizza, and I’m so happy to have found Jimmy’s! Even though it’s a bit of a drive from west loop to pick up (they don’t deliver this far), it’s definitely worth the trip!
It’s taken me five years of living in Chicago to find real NY style pizza. Jimmy’s is sooo good. It’s the perfect ratio of crunch to chew in terms of crust. The sauce is great as well. And the garlic knots! So good! I will only be ordering from here from now on. East coasters, this is your spot! Also love the rainbow arranged Pellegrinos!
A new york slice in Chicago that isn’t ungodly expensive – can it get any better ? The pizza took a while to be made (.we picked up during COVID) but it was totally worth the wait . The white pizza was AMAZING – definitely need to get a slice and that ricotta , what?! We got a 16″ pepperoni – enough to feed 3 people. The pizza was amazingly greasy and the slices were big . The pepperoni does that thing where it folds into itself from the grease . They also do pizza by the slice . This is definitely going to be my new go to pizza joint when I’m craving New York style .
We recently had a craving for pizza and my sister raved about their pizza. We are born New Yorkers and she said this is the closest in the city to NY style pizza with NY size slices. Because of covid I called for pickup and they said it would take 30 minutes which seemed fast for a large pepperoni pizza. When I went to pick it up it was ready within 30 minutes and it smelled and looked delicious. The slices are like 2.5 sizes of a normal pizza slice. It was made perfectly and it tasted as good as it smelled. I don’t know what they did but this is as close to NY pizza as I’ve gotten in Chicago. I loved that you can just come and get one slice to go and they had several different kinds ready to go. I will def be coming back here for my next pizza craving!
We just love this pizza! It is the a epitome of New York style floppy pizza. I only wish they deliver to my area. But no biggie! It’s worth the drive.
Dare I say it, this is maybe one of my favorite pizza places in the entire city including all of the typical Chicago pizza places like Lou Malnatis. I randomly stumbled upon this place because I just wanted a slice of pizza and I couldn’t have been luckier than to walk into this place. You can order entire pizzas you can order pizza by the slice and they usually have about five or six different pizzas to purchase from they have garlic knots which are phenomenal you can also get beignets here which I’ve yet to try. This sausage pizza is phenomenal and so it the white pizza. What I love most is that it’s big slices extremely thin in the bottom of the crust is still crunchy. They have an area off to the side where you can add salt and pepper red pepper flakes Parmesan oregano etc. if you haven’t tried this place already you definitely need to even if you just stop in for a slice. They have desserts giant housemaid salads. It’s honestly perfect. And that’s all I have to say about that. Jackée
