Steakhouse chain outpost serving prime, dry-aged steaks, seafood & wine in a power-dining setting.
28 oz Cajun steak. The steak was ok. It was cooked perfectly. I should of picked a different kind I didn’t really like the Cajun taste in my steak. Service was nice beautiful view. Located literally on the river walk.
I loved the angry shrimp…best shrimp ever A nice sauce too. I suggest to buy it I was suggested the 28oz ribeye 70$ It was good The steak was a bit too ‘charred’ for me coz in every bite I could taste that bitterness The meat however, was delicious and tender with a good flavor Nice and polite servers
I celebrated my 10th year anniversary at S&W last week. As a true Chicago Foodie, I was embarrassed that I have eaten at at many places & this steakhouse is I haven’t tried. Upon arriving, we had drinks at the bar until our inside dining table was ready. I decided to honor a Sidecar which was made with a peach liqueur although initially hesitant, it sounded really food. My husband ordered a simple Mojito. Both were nothing to write home about. I’ve had a better tasting side car. Our friends, another couple arrived & within 5minutes l, we were directed to our table which was pushed in a corner in the back of the restaurant. My husband immediately asked to be moved. This restaurant sits on the river so we asked to be seated at a table with a view. Unfortunately, those tables were all occupied. We settled on a table in the middle of the restaurant with better lightening from the window. The warm pull apart garlic buttered bread that came to the table made up for the sitting arrangements. Our waiter, Gerald waa very friendly. He came over, introduced himself, wished us a Happy 10 yr anniversary & was prompt, professional & very attentive throughout the evening. He aimed to please! We were impressed with the appetizers: the angry shrimp were amazing! 5 jumbo shrimp drizzled in lobster sauce served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The fried lobster was difficult to maneuver because I had to pick through & remove shells to get to the lobster but it was OK. Our meal: My husband & I are Ribeye eaters.. Ww love the marbling & a steak with a good amount of fat to compliment it. We ordered the 44inch Tomahawk cooked medium, garlic roasted potatoes cubes & creamed spinach. We admired the presentation of dishes at neighboring tables & our friends ordered another round of drinks. Our meal came in at least 15minutes, which wasn’t too bad because the restaurant is now getting full. The presentation of the hanging Tomahawk was nice. Our cook placed the roasted potatoe cubes under the steak & used a blowtorch to char it as he basked the steak in butter before serving us. Unfortunately, after cutting into the middle of the stwak and around, we both noticed it was prepared Medium WELL. It had no pink center. The staff was very accomodating & gave us another ateaknpreppared MSDIUM as we asked. It was delicious. The creamed spinach melted in your mouth–nice balance of cheese with the spinach. Gerald’s mission to please didnt stop. He qaa very apologetic about our steak & offered a pice of double chocolate cake! It was so large the 4 of us shared it & still had to take it home. Even though, we were looking forward to the view of the river from our dinner table, we were there for a great steak! Thaya what we got! Overall, we enjoyed Smith & Wollensky & definitely will return.
So I’d actually give them a 3.5 star if I could. We went for an earlier dinner to avoid any crowds/exposure so at around 5pm there were a fair amount of people but definitely felt safe sitting outside overlooking the river. All staff have to wear masks at all times and as do you if they come to your table and if you’re walking around. We started with their deliciously warm buttery soft bread and butter and salts that I’ve heard so much about. We then ordered the crab cake which was excellent with the 2 diff sauces. All crab. No filler. Delicious. We then shared the bone in ribeye and some creamy whipped potatoes. Here is where they lose stars for me – I’ve been to basically all the major steakhouses in Chicago, and a lot more around the country (thanks to work travel) and this just was not my favorite unfortunately. Wasn’t bad but definitely not great. I didn’t cafe for the overly charred exterior. The potatoes though were absolutely delicious – insanely buttery and creamy and high calorie and right up my alley. We ended with a coconut cream cake (free bc of birthday) which was huge and very nice! All in all this was a great meal but I have to take down stars since the highlight needed to be the steak and that was the only thing I didn’t care for.
Great drinks and food, and exceptional service by our waitress Christy! Each steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, the creamed corn and truffle mac were our favorite sides of the night. Would recommend for a nice dinner.
Great food and service! The steak literally melted in my mouth and was cooked perfectly medium rare. The scallops appetizer is highly recommended, on top of a crisp bread and served with pork belly. Although the highlight of my meal was their delicious, complimentary, buttery bread which I could eat all day (but I’m just a massive bread lover and appreciate it) I would definitely come here again – especially for the view right by the river as well.
My wife and I had lunch here two or three years ago, and wanted to go back. It was supposed to be a nice day in Chicago last weekend, so we finally returned, and it was the highlight of the day. Staff was impeccable as I remembered, and the food beautiful as it was delicious. I can’t wait for our next date night at Smith & Wollensky. P. S. Don’t let anything stop you if your thinking about going out to eat. I’m not a fan of the mask, or the mark of the beast, however people make the difference. Dining here this past Saturday was as good as was years ago.
Always a pleasure to come here. Food is consistently good and the staff could not be more attentive. We have celebrated our anniversary here every year in the last five and bring important business clients here as well. This year of Covid 19 we still enjoyed an evening al fresco. Thank you for making this our go to place.
Amazing service. We made reservations and mentioned two birthday celebrations and the hostess acknowledge them upon arrival without being reminded. Our waiter, David was also a highlight. He was cheerful, friendly and helpful. Allowed us to take pictures and surprised us with two huge cakes for the birthday guests. The food goes without saying – met our expectations. We couldn’t have had a better time!
My wife and I were riding around chicago downtown area looking for a bite when we ran across this nicely placed steak house by the river walk. Valet was $14 after validation. We ordered: Crab cake for the appetizer She had a crab roll I had the burger Food was good. Burger made how I like. The really picky wife loved her roll but unfortunately, the crab cake was good but minuscule for the price.
