Modest cafe serving traditional Thai dishes including curries & seafood.
I think negative reviews about Siam are misleading. The food at this restaurant is great and the wait staff are perfectly polite. We received our Crab Rangoon (5 stars) just a few minutes after ordering. They were fantastic and 6 was just right for our table. We did spend some time waiting for our entrees, which was to be expected as many other reviews say they make their food to order. All three of us were thrilled with our meal options. I had the Bamee soup with chili sauce provided on the side. I struggled just a little to get my soup spicy enough, but otherwise it was far and away one of the best casual noodle soups I’ve had in Chicago. While the food at this restaurant was great, other reviewers are right that the setting and wait time leave a little to be desired. Overall for the food, I would highly recommend this place as long as you are willing to wait a little longer than normal.
I ordered from this place at least twice a week when I lived in Hyde Park. The food is great! My fav dishes are green curry, seafood vegetables and crab fried rice. The owner was friendly and always gave us extra lucky cookies when we picked up the takeout. Love and miss this place.
Fits right in with the plethora of average/below average Thai food in Hyde park. Some good options but, lots of not so good ones too.
We’ve been ordering delivery here regularly recently during the quarantine. It’s been great! The food is always well-prepared, tasty, and fresh. The restaurant delivers on time or earlier and with great cheer. The deliverer is always nice and friendly. He leaves the food on the doorstep and always waits to make sure we get the food, usually waving at us as well. This restaurant is a true gem during the quarantine. Support local!
I’ve recently revisited this spot as I’ve not been in about a year. I forgot how wonderfully prepared the food is here. I always order the duck which just make me happy whenever I order it.
It’s a true Thai place. The lunch special cones with soup and a fried spring roll. Both are delicious. The Massaman curry was awesome.
Love this place the food is very authentic. Nice portion size and reasonable pricing please make sure to get some Thai Tea
Owner is friendly! They were able to switch out chicken for tofu in the curry dish for a vegetarian-friendly order. I ordered the spring roll as well and he clarified that it has egg in it. Unsure why the reviews for this place are so-so as the food was very good and the prices are good as well! (I ordered the green curry with tofu and spring rolls and would order again)
The food was fine but the customer service was poor. The online ordering system isn’t great and doesn’t have tofu as an option for most dishes. So I tried to call after placing an order to figure this out but no one picked up for about 30 minutes after my order was placed. When I called, the manager wasn’t even aware of my order and I had a hard time communicating due to the owner’s language barriers over the phone. When I finally got there, it was really slow to pick up the food due to the cashier chatting with a regular customer for over 5 minutes and when we are all wearing masks and waiting, it wasn’t ideal. That being said, the people are SUPER nice and friendly. The food itself is fine – it’s normal Thai food for a decent price. There’s nothing like extraordinary but it’s not bad at all and satisfies the craving.
Kind and attentive staff, and great food. There are a lot of Thai and Asian options in the area, but Siam Thai has the largest variety of dishes. They’re vegan friendly, and can make subs if you order in person – the online ordering unfortunately is lagging behind with the pork/chicken/beef options only.
