Pizza restaurant
Italian chain eatery featuring Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, plus pasta & sandwiches.
a visit to Chicago wouldn’t have been complete without a trip to Pequod’s. Ordered the 14 inch deep dish and it was perfect. Enjoyed it with my son. His friend and my wife and I and had lots of leftovers. This deep dish is delicious and full of flavor. Enjoy!
Great experience . I knew I wanted a deep dish pizza but wasn’t sure which toppings to order so I asked my super awesome server Katherine to guide my selection. I must say, she knew what she was doing and we were all glad we let her guide us on this delightful gastronomic journey! We were seated promptly upon arrival (with reservations), sat upstairs near the bar and drinks came immediately. Had poppers and bruschetta apps and they were delicious! Also, they really do a great job with hygiene and prevention of Covid transmission. Overall excellent experience!!
Alright. Pros: Pequods pizza is known for the burnt cheese on the crust and top of the pizza. I like it and I think it adds some good flavor and crunch to it. The flavor of the sauce was great! You can taste the freshness, and I appreciate the use of seasonings and cheese to complement it. I had sausage on my pizza as well which I feel like only added to it. Summary: great cheese, sausage and sauce Cons: There was a lot of bread to it. I heat that it’s a deep dish pizza, but I felt like I was eating half pizza half dough. While it was soft and easy to manage, it was very spongy and it’s not what I came for. I only want the crust to get in the way of my pizza if it’s mouthwatering. You can’t fill me up on just bread. That’s not right. Summary: lots of thick bread on bottom, ratio seemed off
Wrong order, wrong pizzas, undercooked and the. Bad attitude! Not worth the wait especially when the food is bad!
The best thing I can say about Pequod’s is that it is not the worst deep dish I’ve had here in Chicago. (Obviously as New Yorker I’d never call any of this trash, “pizza”) The crumbly crust here is more like a bland crouton, next goes a sort of lack luster sauce and cheese, with your toppings of choice of course. The meatballs were decent and the garlic was definitely prevalent; I couldn’t taste olive or much else in this pretty pictured pizza. All in all I had high hopes going in to this experience but in retrospect I wouldn’t call Pequods much of an experience at all. From your big crappy chains like Lou Malnati’s, Giordanos, to smaller guys like here at Pequod’s, I almost feel like I’d rather have freezer section pies at a fraction of the cost, at least I’d get some flavor and satisfaction. We were all severely let down by this spot but I should probably give an extra star just because Shitcago deep dish starts at a severe disadvantage and needs handicap… then again, they just don’t deserve it. So after “researching” over my past 4-5 Chicago trips my final comparisons for Pequod’s are: * The crust is better than Lou Malnatis (but who’s isn’t?) * it’s a toss up if they are much better than giordanos…. * Gino’s East is way better and most likely all other Chicago pizza is straight garbage (prove me wrong… this is one instance I’d love to find out how wrong I am with an actual good version of what Chicago seems pizza)
I don’t know why Netflix show “somebody feed Phil” would suggest this place and also a friend told me, “you would never have deep dish pizza in Chicago if you never been to Pequod’s.” My expectation is so high that lead to a big disappointment unfortunately. It’s not bad but it’s not my favorite. There is so much bread, the pizza taste like focaccia bread with sauce and toppings. I only had one slice and couldn’t even finish the leftovers that I brought home. If you are bread lovers, yes, you will love this place. If you want stuffed deep dish pizza, don’t come here. Greasy Lou Malnati’s is even better than this.
Since I was visiting The Windy City for a weekend, might as well try out another Chicago-style deep dish pizza joint. After watching a show about local eats and coming across this spot, I decided to check it out with my partner. Upon arrival, there was no wait, but we were lucky since this is not the norm around dinner from I’ve heard. Masks were required, thankfully,, and all tables were spaced out at least six feet. We were seated upstairs in a corner spot. It didn’t take long for our server to come by and ask for drinks, and while she was gone, we decided on dinner. The menu was easy to read and, and they had a nice selection of toppings. She came back with drinks in tow, and we were ready to order pizza. We were hungry and would’ve waited for thr pizza, but she told us they were taking an hour to make. I guess that’s reasonable since they’re deep dish. So, we ordered mozzarella sticks, which came out fast. I wish our server would’ve come by more often between the sticks and pizza, though. I realize it was busy, but when they come nearby and still don’t check on you, that says something. The sticks were hot, crispy, and satisfied us for a bit. The hour wait wasn’t ideal, but it was worth it. I’ve had deep dish before, but this was superb. The bottom crust was not so thin that it just sagged when you picked it up, and the toppings were very flavorful. The best part was the charred cheesy edges that was mentioned on the show. It added a bit of charred, salty flavor that enhanced it all. We didn’t finish it all, but there’s always the next day. Overall, excellent pizza joint. If the server wouldve been more attenitve, I wouldve rated it higher, but that won’t stop me from coming back.
Pequod’s is a staple of a good Chicago trip. With COVID, they now do reservations which is game changing. We made a reservation on yelp for 8:45, we didn’t get seated until 9:15ish (but still better than the normal three hour waits). It was amazing how busy they were, they always are so I guess it’s not that surprising. We got seated by the window which was perfect. They used a QR code for the menu and toast for the bill, which was great! We ordered a large pizza with lots of toppings and garlic cheesy bread, both sooo good and hit the spot! Would absolutely recommend hitting up Pequods during COVID!
The crust on this pizza is AMAZING! I wish I could just get the crust. The sauce was also fantastic. We got the pepperoni and the sausage pizzas. I would definitely the pepperoni again. I’d eat the sausage again, but if I were between the 2, I’d definitely pick the pepperoni. The dough to sauce to cheese ratio wasn’t exactly where I’d want it to be. I’d want less dough, and more cheese, but there was the perfect amount of sauce. It did take almost 2 hours for them to deliver the pizza to us although we were surprised they delivered to us because we’re on the edge of their delivery radius. That being said the mozzarella sticks were a little cold by the time that we had them. Definitely give it a try!
This is as good as deep dish gets. AS GOOD AS IT GETS. I like it MUCH better than Giordano. And Lou M’s is pretty good too but I think I prefer the crispy bottom and crust of Pequod’s to both of these. Here goes: Food: 5/5 Let me try to describe the pizza. We got a pepperoni, basil medium pan pie. It was more than enough for 2 people. We were full after 3 or 4 slices (about 1/2 – 2/3s of the pie). The pepperoni was crisp and plentiful. I think they should add the basil AFTER cooking + add a bit more on for it to taste even better. BUT the crust was delicious, the cheese was super crispy and caramelized on the crust, the sauce was perfectly salty and not too sweet, the amount of cheese was delicious, and the bread was tasty. I also got an order of wings and it was tasty! Nothing special. Just a solid order of wings and blue cheese. Not too spicy, good wings. Ambiance: 4/5 In light of covid, they have a really good system of keeping customers at least 6′ apart (at most points more than 6′) and reservations make it super easy to get a seat! Just make sure to reserve and order your pizza before hand (i think they let you do this, otherwise you have to wait 45 minutes for the pizza WHICH IS STILL WORTH IT). But they take your temperature at the front, make you wear masks at all times besides eating, and have hand sanitizing areas too! It’s quiet enough to take a date to and lively enough that its a fun atmosphere. Service: 5/5 Definitely because of covid and less people, the service is great. This may change when more people show up! Otherwise, everything was taken care of promptly! Overall, please, please, please do yourself the favor of making it out here!
