We tried 4pieces of small gateau set $6.4 from showcase. Unfortunatelly every one of them was dry and taste old, maybe leftover of the day before. Don’t recommend their sweets. But their roast chicken from the deli corner was good.
If nothing else its a rad place to walk around in. They have a good selection of gurb and grog and some world class pastries. If I remember correctly everything is made by hand on-site. Multi floor establishment in a great area of the city.
If I lived in Chicago, I’d probably be here every week or two. If you love Italy, or Italian food, this is the place to go – either grocery shopping or to dine (or grab take out in this COVID-era). When I was there last, I had dinner at Bar Sabbia. The menu is limited at this individual eating area, however the vibe is fun and the pasta and wine are delicious!
Fun once, but there is no reason to go back. It is wildly overpriced, and the prepred food is terrible. You can get better produce anywhere.
I wish more had been open when I went but what was open was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend the sit down dining upstairs and the gelato downstairs! My favorites from sit down dining was the mushroom pasta dish and the tagliatelle ragu pasta dish. I loved the salads to start as well. I wish I could remember the names of everything that we ordered but that’s what happens when you wait to yelp! Just go eat there and write a better review than this!!!
I’ve ordered drinks a couple of times from here before. My favorite has to be the Ice cappuccino. The server I had today was super super nice . Because i am a little lactose intolerant, but wanted to keep the nice white foamy top on my cappuccino, he suggested to use a milk alternative at the bottom and just use milk for the top foam( so I would benefit from the best of both worlds:) how thoughtful! ). Really nice strong Italian expresso with nice foamy top for a delicious iced cappuccino! Takes me back to the train station platforms in Montreux, Switzerland where they had the little vending machines that sell instant hot coffee drinks) this is actually better! But that was more unique of course. My other favorite lavazza is the one inside a hotel on St.Clair and Ohio St which in itself has more of a cafe feeling but this one being inside Etaly has more ample seating! ( If you don’t come on a super crowded summer day !)
I dined inside where the setup was to accommodate social distancing. The food was superb and our waiter was attentive and provided excellent food and wine recommendations. If you decide to eat there, please make time to shop in the rest of the store. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable about the many products they carry and are not bothered at all to stop and answer questions. A special thank you to Joleen who spent time with us shopping for wine for upcoming holiday gift giving. She answered numerous questions on every varietal possible. She knew the region, the vineyard, who owned it, how long they were in business, the history of the grapes, how it was made and more. I will be back soon to seek Joleen’s additional wine recommendations AND furthering my wine education.
7.23.2020 3:30pm “Chef’s discretion” – I couldn’t substitute tagliatelle for spaghetti. I just did on Tuesday 7/21.2020 at around 5pm with my daughter. SEE PHOTO. 3 chefs doing nothing. 1 pizza maker making 1 pizza. The stink eyes I’ve encountered are beyond reprehensible. Shame on you for making a big deal out of a small request, that you HONORED JUST 2 DAYS PRIOR (SEE PHOTO)!!!
Last night we stayed downtown and wanted an authentic Italian pie. So we checked yelp and ordered the spicy salami pizza and added sausage and mushrooms to the order with a salad and 2 drinks for pickup from Eataly. I didn’t realize it was made in a grocery store deli! I looked under restaurants in my search so I was shocked to see shopping carts and checkout lines when I walked in as their prices are not cheap! Long story short, got the pie back to the hotel room and it was soggy and under cooked as well as missing the sausage and mushrooms I paid extra to eat. Will I go back? Well there’s a saying that starts, fool me once….
I use Eataly for my groceries when I stay downtown! What a nice way to treat myself to high end food- some already prepared and other things just quality!to be able to have fine cheeses and true French bread delivered during these crazy COVID times is a treat! Every prepared salad I have purchased has paired nicely with other greens that I have purchased from Eataly. Freshness and quality have not suffered in their take out and delivery department!
