For appetizers we had ravioli that was basically their version of mozzarella sticks with a heavier breading ratio. Not bad, but not mind blowing. Also did some garlic bread with cheese that was pretty good. Be sure to ask for extra marinara sauce. The chicken cacciatore and it came out soupy with the chicken super over cooked. 2 breasts and lots of vegetables in a red sauce. Didn’t have a lot of flavor and comes with a side plate of pasta with the same sauce. Overall unimpressive. The chicken Parma had good breading and was still over cooked, but not as badly. The meat sauce that comes on it seems to have sausage and was dry good. The overall dish was average. The chicken Marsala seemed to have suffered the same cooking as the cacciatore and also had a really watery sauce with it. It sure what happened since the last time we were here, but it doesn’t stand out like it did. We did see some amazing looking meatball sandwiches go by, but what we ordered didn’t really leave an impression.

Pizano’s does not do deep dish Chicago pizza a favor. This location may have its roots in 1943 Pizzeria Uno, but its hard to believe that the same recipe survived untouched during its 1991 opening. Why? Because the flavorless cracker crust has a stronger resemblance to dried Wheaties at the bottom of a cereal bowl than it does pizza dough. After three stops into the restaurant, the best bet is that they’re staying afloat only from the constant influx of McCormick Place Convention Center attendees with no better alternative in the immediate vicinity. In fairness, Annette’s Peanut Butter Cookie baked in a deep dish pizza pan is a devilishly good idea (amazing in the same way a roll of Pillsbury cookie dough is: nothing special, yet you can’t stop until it’s all gone)

The pizza crust was very hard to chew. Our bartender looked annoyed up until the point where we were checking out. We won’t be back. 🙁

One of those reviews where the number of stars I give the place doesn’t REALLY represent our overall experience, which was rather bimodal. We arrived and it was awfully busy, and we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait. We put our name in, and I decided to take a look at OpenTable and see if there was something nearby that had a table sooner, and oddly found a table AT Pizano’s in nine minutes… so I put my name in for that reservation time, shrugged, and waited. Ten minutes later, when the one hostess called out my name and my group stood up, they seemingly realized we were the same group who had asked prior for the table (in person) and were told 45 minutes. The two hostesses spoke quietly to one another, rolled their eyes, and snarkily showed us to our table with an extremely bad attitude, as though we’d wronged them somehow. My party almost decided to leave before we got to the table, not being used to hostesses acting so irritated and annoyed by our (professional, well-behaved, respectful) party. We sat, discussed briefly if we’d all noticed the attitude of the hostess (we had) and debating whether to leave or not, when our waitress appeared. She was absolutely wonderful, friendly, playful, engaging, so we stayed. The food was delicious and the service was great. But seriously, the two up front, who were the first impression of the place, were like a bad parody of DMV workers. Two stars instead of five because it was the rudest I’ve been treated by the hostess station at a restaurant in years. They’d be fired in a heartbeat if they acted that way in LA…

Pizano’s for pizza was kind of a no … so PizzaNo might be a better name. On the plus side, we still had a fun time at Pizano’s because the service was super and several rounds of draft beer and old fashioneds kept us happy. Of course, Chicago is famous for its pizza and Pizano’s is supposed to be famous for its pizza, too. I just have had so much better deep dish pizza in this city than the version at Pizano’s. The cheese was cheesy, the meats meaty, and the sauce simple, but they didn’t taste great together while the crust was the weakest part of the pie. Two stars for the pizza plus 4 stars for the drinks and service mean Pizano’s is averages out to 3 stars overall … which is about where it ranks in my personal picks for a meal in Chicago. If you are close to Pizano’s because you’re at the convention center or a nearby hotel then consider Pizano’s a convenient choice for dinner, but as to what to order, I say “Drinks, Yes” and “Pizza, No” …

Passing through Chicago enroute to California, I had a craving for some outstanding Chicago pizza after I arrived at my hotel, but I was too tired to go out and get some. Using Yelp I located Pizano’s, and ordered a pie delivered to my room. When the pizza arrived I was positively blown away – it was AMAZING! My pizza had a thin crust that was “party cut” (cut into small squares); the crust was crisp with a nice chew and very flavorful; the toppings were generous and obviously high-quality, and the overall taste profile was so good I even ate some for breakfast the next morning 🙂 It turns out that Pizano’s was founded by the same family that created Lou Malnatis, so no wonder their pies are so good! Next time I’m in town, I’ll make a point of actually visiting one of their locations.

Stephen who took the order over the phone was a prick. Food was good but order came back wrong. It was basically an inconvenience to order food and support the business for this dude. anyways, revaluate who you hire bc that dude is a asshole.

Was staying nearby and our group of 3 needed to grab a bite to eat at a later hour after flying all day. Very few options in the area, so Pizano’s was the obvious choice. Stepped inside and the place had a few groups of people watching the NCAA final. Perfect. Ordered a round of drinks (beers & wine). Read that this was Oprah’s favorite thin crust and I was in. Pizano’s Meatball salad. Meatballs were tasty and you can fool yourself that your eating healthy between bites of salad and meatballs. Rudy’s thin crust. Cheese, sausage, mushroom, onion & green pepper. Solid pizza, but I wasn’t blown away. Nevertheless, I made quite a dent having been deprived from quality pizza (no one does it like Chicago, imho). Final moments of the game were exciting and we were satiated and buzzed, so mission accomplished. Finally, our server was friendly to boot.

I’ma keep this one short. Service is slow and hit or miss just like the pizza. There are times when either will be exceptional, but never both at the same time. Even the folks at the take-out counter seem like they hate their job. When the pizza is made properly it’s one of my favorite thin crusts in the city. Unfortunately, it’s always a crap shoot. Increase your odds by requesting your pie with extra sauce.
