Philly cheesesteaks & craft brews highlighted in an open room with exposed brick & quirky wall art.
Was in a cheesesteak mood and our normal place closed down years ago by us in Evanston. Heard about Monti’s forever, and decided to go for it today. Dang, it was exactly what I wanted. I’m normally the wiz style cheesesteaks, and the cheddar sauce was thumbs up, though could have used a bit more for my taste, I like them a bit sloppy, just gotta order more next time!
I was craving a Philly Cheesesteak and Monti’s is pretty much the only place in Chicago. I ordered the Authentic Philly Cheesesteak with Provolone and Cheese Fries. I walked in and the order was ready on time. The ambiance of the place looked like a sports bar and would be a great place to catch a game. The Philly Cheesesteak was very good. The cheesesteak had a lot of flavor and the bun was soft. I made the mistake of ordering provolone over aged cheddar sauce because their aged cheddar sauce was actually very good. Unfortunately, the fries were super soggy when I got home so hopefully they are crispy dining in. I live about a 10 min walk away so I am sure the food is better dining in. Prices were fair for the portion sizes. Their menu of cheesesteaks sound delicious and I would love to try them some time along with their wings. Overall, Monti’s is a solid place to grab a cheesesteak, but I prefer Italian Beefs better!
Phenomenal cheesesteak. When a place advertises food as spicy it’s generally a disclaimer to the meek and the mild. I got the Rocky and that this is hot! Just how I like it. The sandwich manages to be spicy without being too vinegary at all, considering the peppers seem to be fresh and roasted. I got buffalo sauce on the side and it complemented the savory cheesiness of the whole thing.
The Southside Johnny is a great sandwich! Their ingredients are top quality and the prices reflect that. Worth every penny. Yum! So glad they’re open for pick-up during these crazy times.
Neighborhood treasure! Love having really good Philly cheesesteak sandwich with three different cheese options in the neighborhood. A little on the pricey side but high quality sandwich in return. You won’t be sorry give them a try.
Super friendly and speedy service. Delicious steak sandwiches too. Would highly recommend.
Best Philly cheesesteak in Chicago; yum! Love this neighborhood gem and we’ve taken food to go a couple times during the pandemic – a great treat!
Being from Pennsylvania, I know a good Philly cheesesteak. And I really enjoy them. Sure, other places offer cheesesteaks or sliced or chopped steak sandwiches. Always underwhelming in my opinion. There’s really no substitute for an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. If you’ve had one, you’ll know what I mean. So when I read about Monti’s I was anxious to try. Honestly, my expectations weren’t that high cause I’ve been misled before. But listen, when you walk in and see all the Philly banners, the owner in a Penn hat, when he tells you they bring the buns in every day from Philly from the real bakery… man, that starts the juices flowing. Of course I ordered the original, authentic cheesesteak although they offer some variants. And when I heard the chef in the back chopping that steak up on the hot grill – the way it’s supposed to be done – I honestly started to salivate. Imagine my delight when that thing of beauty was set before me. The smell, the soft bun, the onions…. yes. First bite was heaven. And so was the next and the next till… boom. Clean plate. I’m going back. This wouldn’t be a 5 star place on Philly but in Chicago? 5 stars for sure.
George C. raved and raved about this spot. And who doesn’t love a good philly steak? So I was psyched to see them delivering as we #StayTheFHome. So now, this could’ve been the delivery service and not Monti’s? But, well, our order was all sorts of wrong. They left out George’s entire order. I did get the three sandwich sampler, though. And our fries that were supposed to be topped with tons of things were completely plain. It was a pretty dismal ordering / delivery experience. That said, though, the sampler sandwiches were super tasty! I couldn’t even decide on which one I liked the best. So the flavor was there, for sure. Too bad our order was fumbled – and we paid so much more than what we should have for what we got (Postmates did give me their standard credit for an order gone wrong). All in all, I don’t think I’ll risk ordering from here again (though, it does sound like they’ve worked out some of the delivery service app kinks). But if we ever get to a point where I can safely dine-in, I’ll for sure do that.
I live around the corner from this place and my nose tells me their hours of operation. I’ve not been to Philly so I can’t speak to the authenticity, but I can assure you that this place is just goddamn delicious! I have strayed from my usual order to explore the menu but always come back to my OG…original cheesesteak with aged cheddar sauce, cheese fries, and a side of wings. My boyfriend goes for the Rocky. He’s a man who loves anything spicy. The last time we ordered, it packed a particularly hard punch that made his eyes water and his nose run. He said it isn’t always that spicy but the cooks were feeling extra generous that day. Their fries are a little on the greasy side, but so good that you won’t be mad about it. I’ve had friends say they think it’s a little pricey, but I think it’s reasonable given the size of the portions and the quality of food. I’m happy to see they’re doing so much business in COVID that I hope they’ll survive to reopen when it’s safe. This is a perfect little neighborhood joint.
