I am not a desert person, but Maggiano’s has the best grilled pound cake I’ve ever eaten! I have gone here with friends, work dinners and no complaints from anyone is truly special. When I get back to Chicago for a visit I will definitely return.
It’s cool dining at the original Maggiano location. My first experience with this chain was in college, and I remember being a fan of their family style dining, and I recently tried their catered pasta, which prompted me to check out the restaurant for dinner. The interior here seems much larger than another location that I’ve been to. There’s lots of families and big parties gathering here and the atmosphere is lively and nostalgic. Weekends are packed so make a reservation. We were seated within 15 minutes of our reserved time. For appetizer, we tried their roasted pear and prosciutto bruschetta, which is excellent and I highly recommend ordering at least one of person. They have the option of a “bruschetta tour” which comes with 5 different varieties of bruschetta. We also had the tomato caprese- this one I would skip since I didn’t find the ingredients to be that spectacular. I found it quite amusing that one of our tomato slices was practically the thickness of one third of a full tomato. For the main, I got the veal marsala and a side of mashed potatoes. The veal marsala dish comes with a simple cheese spaghetti. The veal was cooked perfectly and comes in 3 pieces. I loved the marsala sauce, which is a perfect accompaniment to the spaghetti and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are soft and creamy, with a subtle hint of garlic, but it would be nice to have some gravy, or even better yet- extra marsala sauce- with it. One downside I experienced was the spotty service. It felt like they needed to hire more servers since we were sitting for a while without being attended to. While the whole dining experience took more than an hour, our water was never refilled.
Food was just okay at best. The hostess was the most courteous and the best part of the visit. She was accommodating for our large group. The bill was large the type of food we ate. (older visit, Yelp just reminded me I still had to finish it)
Lot’s of OK Americanized Italian food. Spaghetti, Lasagna, Fettuccini Alfredo, Fried Calamari in obscenely large portions – and a second take home pasta to go. Great way to get lots of take home pasta for lunch the next couple days. But great cuisine this is not. Most of the wines are available at Walmart for less than $8. We are foodies visiting Chicago for a long weekend and somehow got duped into visiting this chain location for one of our dinners by a well meaning concierge hyping Maggianos as an authentic Chicago establishment. Too late to turn back after we were seated and were served a plate of four 1/4 pound patties of fried processed mozzarella covered in tomato sauce ladled out of a 55 gallon drum with a another slice of processed cheese on top for good measure. This was followed by the exact same preparation exchanging the blocks of cheese with warmed up frozen chicken fried steak patties and calling it veal parmesan. Veal medallions were awful. Brown gravy from a jar smothering loads of undercooked mushrooms and a few anemic beef tips with a scoop of pasty mashed potatoes. Most of this was packed up for us in a grocery sack weighing nearly 10# that we did not take with us as we were staying at a hotel with a breakfast buffet and hopping on an airplane the next morning. We did share a huge slice of 23 layer chocolate cake back at our hotel bar as a consolation.
Ordered online. Curbside pick up was effortless. Food was packaged perfectly (spill proof!) and came home piping hot! Even the bread was warm with a crusty exterior and still deliciously chewy inside! Salads were just ok. Rigatoni D and the spicy chicken arribiata were both just as excellent at home. Tiramisu was strong on coffee flavor- love!!! Can’t wait to order again soon!
Love it here! Dined here a lot growing up and last Friday was my first time back since. We had our residential staff holiday party here. We pretty much went all out and ordered majority of the menu lol. For apps we enjoyed stuffed mushrooms, sausage and peppers, fried calamari, and mozzarella marinara. All dishes were great and held us over while we waited for our main courses lol. The complimentary bread and oil was delicious too. Oh and the lobster and shrimp fondue was amaaaazing!!! Drinks: only three of us (myself and director included;) enjoyed cocktails). Myself- moscato mojito (so fresh), director- pomegranate martini (sub vodka for don Julio) coworker- citrus mule (summer vibes lol) Since we filled up on our many appetizers and bread we all could only enjoy a few bites of our meals. Majority of the people got steak! Cooked to perfection they said. Myself and one other staff got the Salmon Oscar, topped with crab, and asparagus with lemon butter sauce. We also enjoyed the crab cakes. So flakey and not filled with too much either lol. Dessert (to go)- double chocolate brownies mmmm so delicious the next day warmed. Came with chocolate sauce and strawberries dipped in sauce. Our server Caroline was so great. Made the experience even better. Great ambience in the restaurant, and staff was great. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy some more deliciousness! Highly recommend.
Great food and service! Steak was very juicy and tender! The fried potatoes were amazing on the side! Creme brûlée is the must order:) to me! Not too sweet and very creamy.
My first time dining at this location. I usually dine at the one in Oak Brook. I came here for lunch and I wasn’t disappointed. When I walked inside I was greeted by the pleasant Mr. Kyle. His personality was very warm and charming. I was seated in a nice comfy high table/chair area. The atmosphere here is so inviting. My host Ali was attentive and sweet. Great hospitality and service. I ordered the Minestrone soup and it was so delicious. If you order any classic pasta from the menu. You can select another pasta entrée to take home. Great Deal. I ordered the Taylor Street Baked Ziti. It was ok. Not bad but something was missing from this dish that took away the flavors and taste. Full Bar with many selections to choose for your tasting. Nice art work along the walls. I will make it appoint to come back one day after work for happy hour. Many great selections and deals.
