The food here was very good. Worth the price tag? I’m not sure. On the other hand, the poor service was definitely not worth 200 dollars. The waiter was extremely rude and also not very good at waiting. He was very difficult to deal with throughout the night, but here’s one instance that stood out. When we placed our orders for appetizers, we asked if the daily soup was hot. He said yes, but when the soup came out it was a cold soup. We mentioned this to the waiter but he refused to acknowledge his mistake and said we would be charged for the soup. The waiter’s service was unfortunate, since the food was quite good. But, unless there is a change in the service, we will not be returning.

This was a small, quaint french restaurant in Hyde park. It seems very authentic. The service was excellent, and the food was good. I had the foie gras appetizer, and the foie was perfectly prepared. I had the duck for my main course. It was a perfect medium rare and everything was seasoned well.

What happened to the potatoes? Very sad almost “instant” potatoes. And food came cold to the table. I admit I was in a large group but they had warning and should have been better prepared. But I would pay to spend time with their flatware. How oftentimes do you get to sit down with real silver? The cheese tart appetizer came with an equally amazing arugula salad and a velvety acidic love bomb of a dressing.

We have had dinner here twice. Both times amazing. Marcus is a server that any diner would love to have. And, the wine was everything one would want in a French white. And, and…the apps, the salad, the entree, and the dessert (oh, and the after dinner drinks)…perfection.

A Hyde Park mainstay that happens to be doing an exceptionally impeccable job of serving take-out during the pandemic. You call and place an order and reserve a time slot, which are staggered to ensure that people aren’t coming and going at the same time. Then you walk into the front room, which is empty, where your food is sitting labeled on a table. Somebody disinfects the door handle after you leave. Also, the food is just impeccable. My steak was perfectly done, my vegetables were crisp tender, and the crudite salads were exceptionally nice too. Highly recommended for a dose of civilization amidst the crisis.

*This review is for the catering service for a wedding reception.* My husband and I went with Mary at LPF for our reception dinner last month, and we could not have been happier with our evening. Every detail was meticulously attended to- Mary saved us a great deal of time and money by coordinating the aesthetic (floral centerpieces and other decor) and arranging the delicious meals. The duck appetizer and main course were particular hits with our guests. Our cake was a 3-tier red velvet and it is simply the most delicious (and beautiful) cake we’ve ever had.

For the years that I lived in Hyde Park and passed by La Petite Folie, I never went in. Part of it was being in constant motion. Part was relying on other people’s input. Sometimes you have to just follow the Nike motto and “Just Do It!” Sancere. Crutide salad. Sturgeon with spinach and potatoes. Gelato. Because I was having seafood for my entree, my server recommended a glass of white wine: Sancere. Good choice. The crutide salad was like the staple salad I had in Chalon, France, albeit the carrots and celery were diced rather than chopped. The sturgeon over spinach was good in the provincial sense, but the potatoes detracted from that because they were overcooked. As to the gelato, the white peach, dark chocolate, and hazelnut were rather authentically Italian, as I remember during my most recent visit to Florence. The menu appears to be provincial, which means the dishes aren’t creamy and highlighted with rich sauces. The service was very good. And the price was nothing close to what I’ve paid at high-end French restaurants. Overall, La Petite Folie will be on my blog site.

It is with much shame that I must report that I have lived in Chicago 20 years before visiting La Petite Folie. But it was only my loss, for the food here is exceptional. We ate here prior to a play at the Court Theatre, and they are experienced in dealing with those time constraints. They do have a pre-theatre prix fixe but we just ordered from the regular menu. We started with salads, which were good. The frisee salad has loads of gorgonzola so I recommend that. For dinner I had the lamb, which was fine but you only get two chops. The real value here is the filet, which Kelly ordered. It was exceptional and comparable in quality to any downtown steakhouse. The wine list is 100% French (or nearly so) and so reasonably priced it would make any French heist movie proud. I ordered a Gigondas for I so rarely have the opportunity to do so, and it was a model of the style. Earthy and peppery. Desserts were fine; there are three chocolate options from which to choose. Service is good but the decor is dated. Grab one of the two window tables if you can to have a better view during dinner. If I lived on the South Side I would visit more often, but it is still a destination worthy restaurant. It is in a courtyard mall connected to a strip mall, so parking is plentiful but will require a short walk.
