This is probably my favorite dingy aquarium Chinese restaurant ever. While it’s far from refined, they give you AMERICAN! sized portions at a killer value. The lunch special will feed regular sized mortals for at least two meals worth. Working near CSK is dangerous as I tend to find my palate visiting their version of the Orient once a week with no regrets. Their vegetable egg foo young is probably the best I’ve ever had especially the second day when the gravy has congealed into dancing cubes. The General Tsao’s chicken is more than adequately flavorful and their generically flavored egg rolls are always cooked perfectly.

I have been going here on and off over the years when i lived in this city. Every visit i have experienced well cooked food, generous portions and a friendly welcome every time. My favorites are always off of the combination plates such as the Empress , General, Orange, Sesame chicken varietys as well as others! The Shrimp fried rice is cooked to perfection, the Eggrolls, the Crab Rangoon and as all their food always is. I have never been disappointed, except because i can hardly ever finish their food! If you believe i am exaggerating a bit, then try it for yourself! I personally recommend this place!

Chop Suey King has been my office’s regular Chinese take-out place – partly because our receptionist loves their food, and partly because they are fast, low-cost and filling. The lunch combination plates are packed with so much food that they are essentially 2-for-1 deals, since they are impossible to be consumed by one person. Stir frying tends to bring out such fragrant aromas from the food, but I’ve tried many things that I thought was just so-so. The beef seems to be from fattier parts, and they don’t have enough wok-fried flavor in the fried rice. However, I like that the vegetables are always fresh, and they cook it slightly firm. Oddly enough, despite trying everything from the Mongolian beef to the shrimp with lobster sauce, I think the best things are their egg rolls and wonton soup. The egg rolls are made with just the detectable amount of peanut butter nuttiness (secret ingredient), which is delicious! A large order of the wonton soup is more than enough for a meal – six large wontons (mostly pork), shredded BBQ pork, carrots, peapods, and cabbage and topped with fresh scallions. I’m usually ordering with the office out of convenience and have stuck with these two – they are truly excellent, especially for under $5!

This is a solid Ameri-Chinese take out spot and I’d pit it against others in the area. The Great: Lunch Specials- Available till 3:30pm and on Sundays. Lunch specials consist of shrimp fried rice piled high, egg roll, entree and pop for the low price of $6.65. They’re available for dinner for $7.95. Want to change it up a little? Get a Crab Rangoon substituted for the egg roll. It shouldn’t need to be said but the egg rolls are fried fresh when ordered which I haven’t found at a couple places. The Good: every lunch special I’ve ordered so far, Orange Chicken twice, Mongolian Beef twice, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, and Shrimp Egg Foo Young. Orange Chicken fried well with an orange tinged sauce that glazes the entree. Mongolian Beef comes with nice variety of veggies but I’ve gotten sinewy beef once. Shrimp in Lobster Sauce was all about the gravy and was a little light on the shrimp. I know Shrimp is the most expensive protein and costs like $30/PC but throw me a couple more and bump up the price.. take that gravy and mix it into the fried rice and you have second or third meal. The Meh: gravy for Egg Foo Young tastes like bottled turkey gravy. It’s gloopy but easy to scrape off and enjoy the piping hot patties in their own.

I was going to write a really rude review but the manager agreed to give a refund. I have never had Chinese food this gross. I read the reviews and was like it cant be that bad. But it was really that bad. I ordered the orange beef. I imagined it to be similar to Panda Expresses’ Beijing beef based on the description on the menu. This dish was like eating a wet piece of tissue. It was so soggy and I couldn’t taste any beef at all. I couldnt eat it. Im so mad I wasted my money. Smh….order with caution!!!

Best Chinese food I have ever had!!! I’m very picky and I don’t like onions… I can tolerate some in certain dishes but that’s not the case for the green onions in fried rice 🙁 all the Chinese restaurants I have ever went to in my entire life have never completed my request to leave the damn things out! However… Chop Suey King left the onions out and the fried rice was excellent I ordered the empresss chicken and it’s pretty good but it’s not my favorite 🙂 the egg roll was meh 😮 My bro ordered the sesame chicken and it was delicious and sweet with a light crunch. :3 My grandfather ordered the shrimp egg foo young and I think that was my favorite dish so far! It was light and packed with veggies and shrimp! What I liked the most was that my meal arrived piping hot! I’ll be coming back.

I must start out by sharing that I am not a big fan of Chinese food. I once was but I either overdid it or grew out of it. But one day my brother and sister-in-law decided to order from Chop Suey King and I fell back in love:). They give you big portions of tasty food. You are almost always eligible for free egg rolls – yes please! And also have other freebies based on the total of your order. My family and I stick to what we like. Which here would be: orange chicken, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, egg rolls and crab rangoon. I’ve never been disappointed. And if we order with friends they’ve never been disappointed with their orders either. I actually had a friend from NY say if he lived in Chicago this would be his Chinese spot. I highly recommend based on my own experiences. I recently moved and tried local places without luck. I was beyond happy when I called and they said they would deliver to my new home!

This place should be shut down due to unsanitary conditions. They hang their fish on the gate adjacent to the alley where rats, birds, and squirrels have access to it. Not to mention, FLIES have access to it. Any resident that resides behind it knows it and there’s also pictures of this. If you check the 311 CHI system app you can see that there is a restaurant complaint for them because people know this and have complained. It’s gross. Completely unsanitary. I regret ever ordering from here.
