Straightforward counter offering a lengthy menu of Greek & American comfort-food favorites.
Just finished dinner and right now I am seriously considering relocating from LA just so I can eat here, oh, 3 times/week. Portions are big, service is warm, and the food is spot on. Moist juicy gyros and souvlaki. Warm, thick pillow-like pita bread. Those lemony Greek potatoes. You know what I’m talking about. Has a very homey, almost Cheers-like vibe. I heard the staff call almost all the customers by name. And last but not least, thanks Yelp. Before you came along there was almost no way a tourist like me would have found a place like this.
Best place in Hyde Park by far. The gyros are fantastic, and the beefs are superb. Beyond the food, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is warm. Words can’t accurately describe the Antoni experience–you have to taste for yourself.
Based on my meal, I have to give it two stars. I had read great things about the cream of rice/chicken soup so I got the gyro platter – which came with rice, soup, salad, greek potatoes and the gyro. I got the soup and it was chicken noodle – not anything to write home about…same with the salad. The rice was very bland – and the greek potatoes were overly oily. The gyro meat was extremely “chunky” – not as though it was freshly sliced off the spit. The tzatziki sauce was more yogurt based than cucumber based. All in all – not a great lunch. My husband, on the other hand, got the Greek Burger and really enjoyed it.
This is a new fast food grill serving Greek food. They said that everything is homemade! I was walking past yesterday and noticed that it said “open”, so I went inside. They were still setting up and said they had just opened that afternoon. So they are still in early stages of opening. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Greek Dinner. It was good, and a great deal! I want to try more things on the menu, but also just get that again! The dinner was $13 and included 3 chicken souvlaki (3 chicken kabobs), tzatziki, rice pilaf, 2 wedges of Greek potatoes, pita, small Greek salad, and soup of the day (Chicken noodle). Everything was good. The chicken and tzatziki were fantastic. The potatoes and rice were both very buttery and tasty. The soup was fine (not super hot, but I’m not going to hold that against them they were still getting set up!) The Greek salad was a solid Greek salad! The staff were friendly and helpful! The menu has a lot of options. Everything was very reasonably priced. All in all this is a solid place! I will definitly return!
Awesome family business with great customer service. I ordered the combo with the chicken kabobs and the gyro meat with rice pilaf and Greek potatoes. The chicken was somewhat dry and flavorless but it was edible. The gyro meat was cut a little thicker than I like and could have had more seasoning. They only give you one pita and one sauce but it’s enough to make 2 1/2 gyro sandwiches. I absolutely loved the Greek potatoes and instantly wished that I had more of them. The rice pilaf was scrumptious. I tasted my daughter’s Greek fries and didn’t understand the whole concept since all of the Feta cheese was on the bottom of the to go container. My meal also came with a Greek salad and chicken noodle soup. I ate the salad and half of the combo. My son ate the soup and said it was delicious but was mostly broth and had very little chicken or noodles. It’s a lot of food for one person and I definitely recommend you split the combo with two people.
This place is interesting…I’m not too sure what to think of it. As a vegetarian, there really isn’t anything on the menu for me except for a couple of sides and the spanakopita special (feta and spinach pie). This dish of theirs is absolutely delicious but not worth $7 a la carte. The special is $10 and comes with a couple of sides, making it totally worth your money. The potatoes are fantastic. I just really wish there was more variety for vegetarians and cheaper options, the way there is for non-vegetarians. Service is always great too, probably because the place is family-run. I’ll be back but not as frequently as I’d like as there are only so many times I can eat a spanakopita.
Pepe’s use to be at this location here in Hyde Park. It had been here for years then it closed down and this place pops up. I was excited yayyy……Greek Food! I went in and it was an older lady working the register. She was pleasant!! I also loved that in between her taking your order, taking your cash and packing your food that she uses hand sanitizer!! Go girl!! Money is filthy!!! I ordered a Gyro Plate. It came with one pita (weird right? It really should have been two), the gyro meat (they use Kronos), the soup of the day, a salad with kalamata olives and two slices of Grecian potatoes and rice. I also got a pop. My total was like $16. Not bad!! So I waited about 10 mins for my to go order. It was two old guys back there cooking kinda of dragging. My expectations were shot!!!!! Them moving lethargically made me think the food was going to be horrible…crazy logic? Not really but kinda. I get home which is like 10 mins away. Open it up.. it had a nice amount of meat yet only one piece of pita bread. The Grecian potatoes had great flavor but they were dry like they were reheated from yesterday. The rice was plain. It was bad in flavor but had canned mushrooms in it. The soup was bean soup (which I hate so I didn’t taste it) and it was a nice big container full of it. The salad was a plain salad nothing super except the Kalamata olives. This place horrible they just need to put more love in the food!! Add some olive oil and or lemon and fresh mushrooms to your rice. Don’t reheat the potatoes. Make them the same day. Hook it up guys!!!!!
Wow! I’ve been looking for a great spot to eat when I’m working in Hyde Park for years now and I just found it! Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was cooked fresh to order. Huge portion with all the trimmings on a fresh bun. I’m not a fan of fries so they let me substitute the fries for Greek potatoes, no questions asked and they were also fantastic. They also included a nice sized cup of soup as well with crackers. The prices were well worth it and the combo of the great food and prices is what just made me a repeat customer! Love this place!
Delicious food, large portions, fast, and the staff are always friendly. Plus there’s a student discount. Typically get chicken souvlaki but the gyro is also great. Probably the only meal you need all day.
Simple. Delicious. And exactly the type of local restaurant you want to find in your neighborhood. We came on a Sunday afternoon to get some dinner to-go. We couldn’t find anywhere to order online, so we ordered at the restaurant. There was only one person at the register and the cook in the kitchen. It’s a small, welcoming vibe that most places in Hyde Park don’t have. The lady at the register was really friendly. I even overheard her working with a customer (who seemed like he was a regular) that didn’t have enough money to pay for the order. The food itself was very good. I got the chicken kebabs, with rice, a side salad, and creamy chicken and rice soup. I don’t know if the soup varies by day, but I really recommend the chicken/rice soup. I was full with just a cup of that. My boyfriend got the gyro, and it was also very good. The dinner plates are huge. We both had plenty of leftovers for dinner the next day. I can’t wait to go again and try other things on the menu.
