Classic steaks, chops & pasta dishes are served in an upscale, ’50s-style supper club venue.
We came here based on location and recommendation from someone. First- location: they are located near Portillo’s and the Redhead piano bar. Second -Service: we made reservations and arrived a little earlier but they sat us right away in their second floor. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and gave us good recommendation. The other staff members gave us the same great service as our waitress. Third- atmosphere: this is one of the older steak house so it may not be as nice as some of the other steakhouses but that’s what adds to the great feel of the overall atmosphere. The one thing that wasn’t too appealing was that all of the tables were really close to each other so there not too much privacy as far as conversations go. Lastly – food: we had a party of 4 so we started with a couple of martinis. I attempted to order a key lime martini which was on the menu by our waitress said they no longer have it and haven’t taken it off the menu so she suggested a passion fruit martini which was really good. We ordered the calamari as a appetizer. It was perfectly cooked. We had a salad and couple of French onion soup. The French onion soup was delicious. We ordered two different tomahawk steaks and 2 sides to share among all of us. We had the Brussels sprouts and bacon mashed potato which we enjoyed all of it. The steaks we cooked perfect and so delicious. For dessert we had the lava cake and key lime pie. We would definitely return.
This is more of an aesthetic review as I live across the street. Side note: I have eaten here and it is very good. However, since the pandemic, they have turned their former parking area into a really lovely outdoor seating area. I hope they keep this up after the pandemic because it is noticeable in the neighborhood. My absolute favorite part is in the evenings. They play soft jazz music and I can hear from my balcony. With the white umbrellas, lights and greenery, I feel transported to Paris.
The service was great (from hostess to server and everyone in between), portion sizes were pleasantly large and the tables were spaced in a way that felt safe. We went to celebrate a birthday on a Tuesday night. I noted in our digital reservation the reason for our night out and everyone made sure the birthday boy was acknowledged and taken care of, especially our sever whose name I wish I could remember! She took care of the second and main floor tables though, and despite the stairs and distance always made sure we were taken care of. They’ve created a nice patio area to the side of the building, but it was drizzling so it was indoors for us. Use a parking app to get decent garage parking nearby or valet right in front. I’d give 4.5 stars bc the food was solid and a safe bet, but nothing I think I’d find myself dreaming about – which is probably good for my wallet 🙂 give it a try, a classic old school steak joint with an old school interior, full of wonderful staff, interesting photos and the charm you’d expect from a place like this.
Came in at 4PM Saturday Aug 8 to dine before an 8:30 flight. Covid Rules – all protocols in place. 3 steaks and a prime rib – all 5 star quality, served as requested. Venue and service excellent, attentive but not pesky, just right. Note most of the time during dinner we were the only ones on the second floor. Things to keep in mind. It is expensive – no secret – aged steaks served in a historical building – very cool, perhaps even a value but this is not for everyone’s budget. 20% service is added. States clearly on the menu and the server reminded me when the check was brought. A lot of the wine list is expensive. Expensive wine lists and mandatory tips just rub me the wrong way. Having said that, there are some very rare and unusual wines available, up to $10,000. The wine list is on their website, do your research and be as adventurous as budget allows. Pair such fabulous meat with tap water is just ….wrong.
The Chicago Chophouse is a hidden jewel. The food is great! The service is fantastic and in the midst of this pandemic they have followed all CDC guidelines for Covid 19 which is very comforting during these times. I highly recommend for a great meal with great service they alsovhave meal specials daily . Very affordable!
Went here for our 11th anniversary. We sat at the wall of Chicago Mayors! Service was top notch. Food was excellent. If you are looking for a classic, fine-dining Chicago steakhouse experience, then the Chophouse is the place to go.
For my wife’s birthday we decided to check out Chicago Chop House. We haven’t gone out much due to COVID. The food lived up to its reputation. Our only issue was our server was less than safe. She always had her mask pulled down when she came to the table. She talked over our food. My wife and I took a gamble and still ate our food, as we didn’t want to get our server in trouble. Her lack concern for her clients was transparent through her pleasant demeanor. Also, none of the staff corrected her. As much as we wanted to say something, we (the client) shouldn’t be out in that position. If we can’t even go to one of Chicago’s more expensive restaurants and feel safe, what’s the motivation to dine out?
I’m so glad someone else witnessed this owners disgusting behavior! I was also a bystander at this establishment and witnessed the owner mock, ridicule, and cuss at 2 patrons for parking a bicycle on a PUBLIC STREET. I think it’s safe to assume it was racially motivated. I will never come to or support this establishment!! What a disgusting act and horrible human.
I happened to be dining across the street from this establishment yesterday when I witnessed the owner screaming racist obscenities at a guest for having his bike parked outside the restaurant. To the extent that the police had to be called due to the obnoxious behavior of the owner. I will NEVER spend a dime at this restaurant and I would advise you not to support them either. BLM
